Panthers Maul Lightning in 15-2 Loss

Apr. 6, 2011

Box Score

Senior Jeremy Lopez went 4-for-5, but it wasn't enough as the Lightning dropped its 11th straight game, 15-2, on Tuesday night to host SUNY Old Westbury at a soggy Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex to fall to 4-14 on the season.

Lehman jumped on the board early, posting a two-run first inning thanks to back-to-back doubles to start the game by Lopez and Christian Fadul and an RBI single by Jhon Comas Disla.

However, Old Westbury came right back in its half with four runs off Lightning starter Brian Cubero, as the first five batters in the Panthers' order all reached safely.

Old Westbury proceeded to plate two runs in the second, one in the third, two in the sixth, and capped off the barrage with a six-run sixth inning off Lehman reliever Francisco Sanchez. Seven different players drove in runs for the Panthers, who put pressure on the Lightning pitchers by stealing 15 bases.

Cubero took the loss for Lehman, giving up six runs in his two innings of work. Sophomore Kevin Briffa, one of eight pitchers on the evening for the Panthers, earned the win.

Lehman will look to snap its losing streak on Saturday afternoon when the team hosts City College of New York.
