BRONX, N.Y. - With six consective conference matches on the horizon, the Lehman men's volleyball team picked up its third straight victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating visiting St. Joseph's College (BK) by a 3-1 (25-10, 25-12, 24-26, 25-11) final score to improve to 11-6 on the season.

For the second straight contest the Lightning faced a team below its level of competency and it showed early in the match as Lehman jumped out to big leads in both the first and second sets.  In the third, however, the Lightning became a bit complacent and the energetic Bears took advantage.

St. Joseph's built a 10-4 lead to start before Lehman battled back to square things at 12-12 on a kill by Manuel Bonilla.  A kill by Brian Francisco and another by Bonilla pushed Lehman ahead 14-12.  From there the set took on a back and forth flow until the Lightning remained one point away from the match victory at 24-22.  But the Bears would tally the next four points to take the set, stun the Lightning and set off a mini-celebration between the changeover.

The Lightning proceeded to restore order in the fourth set with Miguel Gallardo providing well placed passes to Francisco, Orlando Vargas and a determined Luis Colon.  Lehman ended the match by taking 14 of the final 17 points.

In the win Gallardo slammed a team-high 14 kills and also added 14 assists and four service aces.  Francisco notched 10 kills, seven aces and nine digs while Colon finished with six kills and 14 assists.

Lehman starts its six game CUNYAC stretch on Tuesday when the team travels to Brooklyn College.
