CSI Completes Three-Game Sweep With 9-5 Win

March 25, 2012

Box Score

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The College of Staten Island Dolphins followed up Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Lightning with a 9-5 victory on Sunday to take all three games of the series and drop Lehman to 5-4 on the season.

Lehman was outhit 10 to five by the Dolphins and followed up yesterday's tough day in the field with another subpar performance, committing five errors.

Freddy Parra, who closed out the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, started for the Lightning and was charged with the loss.  Parra worked two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on only two hits, but walking four and throwing a wild pitch.

The Dolphins took the lead in the first inning, scoring two runs with the help of a Lightning error, a passed ball by catcher Onix Mejia and a wild pitch by Parra.

Lehman tied the score with one in the second on an RBI single by Jeremy Perez and one in the third on a fielder's choice groundout by Stephen Valdes.

Staten Island retook the lead in the bottom of the third with three runs coming after there were two outs in the inning.  Following an error by shortstop Frank Almonte that kept the inning alive, Sal Todaro rammed an RBI single to score Bryan Moreno.  Todaro would steal second ahead of a walk to Frank Smith.  Both were then brought home on Sal Cassano's two-run double.

The Lightning answered with two of its own in the top of the fourth to draw back to within 5-4.  Both runs were of the unearned variety with David Painter scoring on an error by Dolphins' centerfielder Dan Lynch and Socrates Peralta crossing the plate on a wild pitch.

Each team added another run - Staten Island in the sixth, Lehman in the seventh - before the Dolphins put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Lehman will look to break its three-game slide on Tuesday when Mount Saint Vincent travels across the Bronx for a single game.
