The Lightning Racks Up Wins Against NYU-Polytech, 14-4 and 8-4

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman Lightning picked up a pair of wins against Polytechnic Institute of New York University as they defeated the Fighting Blue Jays 14-4 and 8-4 of in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Lehman raised its record to an impressive 3-1 on the season.

In the first inning of the game, Edwin Marrero slammed one to centerfield for a double, bringing home Michael Liang for the game's first run. Later, Stephen Valdes also boomed a double, bringing in Marrero for an earned run. Onix Mejia and Valdes each scored a run on a single by Freddy Parra as part of the four run frame that gave the Lightning the 4-0 lead. Lehman would go on to solidify the win in the fifth inning where they scored five more runs to increase the lead to 11-3. Polytechnic would never be able to recover and ultimately lost the game.

Lehman started Aneudi Garcia performed great on the mound, only allowed five hits, and was followed by Valdes, who pitched two innings.

The second game was more of a challenge for the Lightning as Polytechnic returned more rejuvenated and ready for a different outcome. The Fighting Blue Jays went scoreless in the first inning and Christian Fadul and Euan Shields helped Lehman gain the first two runs of the game. Polytechnic scored in the second inning on an error by Lehman, then went on to score two pivotal runs in the fifth inning, gaining a 4-2 lead over the Lightning.

The fifth inning proved to be a difference-maker as Fadul and Wilfredo Gonzalez each scored. A double by Socrates Peralta helped earn him three RBIs as he cleared the bases, giving the Lightning a 7-6 lead over Polytechnic. Both teams concluded the game with an additional run a piece resulting in an 8-7 score.

The Lightning will return to the action on Wednesday to face SUNY Purchase on the South Field in the Bronx.
