Baseball Drops Fourth Straight With Loss to Mount Saint Vincent

March 27, 2012

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - Home runs from Jason Rivera and Kevin Coogan helped boost visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent to a 13-5 victory over Lehman on Tuesday night as the Lightning lost its fourth straight, evening its record at 5-5.

Coogan's blast was an inside-the-parker and came off Lightning starter Michael Liang in the second inning, while Rivera's was a no-doubter to right center in the sixth off Gabriel Levine- Justicia.  Coogan finished the day 4-for-5 with three RBIs.  Rivera also drove in three and finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Dolphins scored in each of the first four innings, highlighted by a three-run fourth inning that gave them a 6-0 lead.  Lehman got one back in the bottom of the inning on a long solo home run by David Painter.  Mount Saint Vincent answered two innings later with another three-run frame, highlighted by Rivera's blast, to take a 9-1 lead.

Lehman pushed across two runs in the sixth with the aid of an RBI single by Freddy Parra.  The Lightning seemed poised to get back in the game and actually had the bases loaded, but the Dolphins turned a nifty 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.  They then plated two additional runs in the top of the seventh for an insurmountable 11-3 lead.

Painter would add a two-run triple in the eight to cap the Lightning's scoring and finish his 2-for-4 day.  Christian Fadul and Wilfredo Gonzalez also added two hits each for Lehman.

Lehman returns to the South Field on Wednesday for a night game against New Jersey City University.
