STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lehman baseball team earned its second conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon, splitting a pair of games with John Jay at the College of Staten Island Athletic Complex to up its record to 2-3.  Both games were originally scheduled for Saturday but were postponed by rain.

The Lightning played a crisp game in taking the day's first contest, 4-3, and had a chance to earn the sweep leading 6-5 in the second game only to have John Jay score seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to prevent Lehman from taking both.

Wilfredo Gonzalez started the first game for the Lightning, going the distance to record the win.  The freshman righty scattered six hits over his seven innings of work while striking out six.

After John Jay opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first, Lehman came right back in the top of the second with two to tie the score on a sacrifice fly by Frank Almonte and an error by the Bloodhounds.  John Jay retook the lead in the fourth.

Bloodhounds starter Braylin Perez was able to keep the Lightning at bay for only one additional inning until Lehman plated two runs in the top of the sixth to take the 4-3 lead.

Onix Mejia, David Painter and Freddy Parra each collected two hits in the win.

In the day's second game Lehman carried a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning but could not hold on.  Three batters into the inning starter Aneudi Garcia gave way to Francisco Sanchez and eventually Gabriel Levine- Justicia as the Bloodhounds used three hits and three errors to push seven runs across.  Garcia was tagged with the loss despite not being on the mound when the go-ahead runs crossed the plate.

Painter continued to swing a hot bat, tallying two more hits and two RBIs, while Parra also drove home a pair and Almonte knocked in one.  Edwin Marrero broke out of a mini-slump with three hits in four times at bat.

After committing only a single error in the first game, Lehman hurt itself with five miscues in the second game.

The Lightning and Bloodhounds will conclude their series Monday night on the South Field in the Bronx.
