Lightning Hoping For Short Memory After Loss To Old Westbury

April 11, 2012

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - The Old Westbury Panthers slammed 30 hits on their way to a hard-to-believe 32-5 victory over the Lightning on Wednesday evening on the South Field, dropping Lehman to 9-11 overall.

Old Westbury scored two in the top of the first to take an early lead, though it was no indication of the damage the Panthers would do two innings later.  In the top of the third, first against Lightning starter Michael Liang and then against reliever Gabriel Levine- Justicia, Old Westbury started hitting - and kept on hitting - long enough to push across an eye-opening 17 runs.

The Panthers would go on to score three in the fifth, two in the sixth, six in the seventh, and finally two in the ninth for the final margin.

Lehman's first two runs came courtesy of a David Painter RBI groundout and a Chris Tavarez RBI single, both in the bottom of the fourth.  The Lightning added single runs in the fifth (Nick Morales RBI single), eighth (Tavarez sac fly) and ninth (Morales RBI ground out).

Lightning starter Michael Liang was tagged with the loss, his third of the season, as he was unable to make it out of the third inning.

A short memory is in order for the Lightning as the team has a quick turnaround before playing non-conference foe St. Joseph's (BK) at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Brooklyn.
