Bronx, N.Y. - A scoring barrage from an unexpected source combined with several key absences can lead to a dispiriting loss for any team. Unfortunately, it was the Lehman College men's soccer team who became witness to that on Thursday evening when they dropped a non-conference to Maritime College 3-0.

In the first five minutes of the season opener, it started to look bad for the Lightning when the Privateer's Chris Anderson took a penalty shot as a result of a foul by Assami Valian inside the goalie's box. The Lightning held position of the ball throughout most of the first half but remained locked out by Maritime's defense.

The second goal for the Privateers resulted from a header by Logan Becker nineteen minutes into the second half. Ten minutes later Matthew Gisolfi scored on breakaway goal attempt by Derek Nehring. The Lightning would remain scoreless.

The Lightning will return on the field on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Patchogue, NY. They will face the Eagles of Saint Joseph's Long Island. Kick off starts at 1:00 p.m.
