Men's Soccer Battles FDU at South Field

BRONX, N.Y. - Victory slipped through the hands of the Lehman College men's soccer team on Saturday, dropping a very physical match to FDU-Florham, 3-2.

Through the first 45 minutes, play was very even. Both teams had opportunities, but no one could score.

In the game's 70th minute, FDU took advantage of a miscue in the Lehman back line for a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Lehman scored its first goal of the game off of a corner kick. Sophomore Wil Arbieto-Lopez (Lima, Peru/Norwalk) sent the ball into the box, where it was played by junior Momar Thiam (New York, N.Y.). Thiam passed the ball to senior Oumar Niang (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center), who beat the keeper to tie the game.

With the score tied, Lehman took a 2-1 lead with eight minutes to play when Thiam blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the goal.

In the 89th minute, FDU managed to tie the game on an unassisted goal, then scored the game-winner in the 90th minute.

In goal for Lehman, Marcos Coto-Batres (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) played exceptionally, making eight saves.

The game was very close, and a tough loss for the Lightning (1-5-0). Lehman will travel to Purchase on Monday, September 17, to face SUNY-Purchase under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
