Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team won its first game of the season, upending Berkeley College 3-0 on Wednesday night, in a game played on Lehman's South Field.
Senior
Oumar Niang (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center) was the offensive star for the Lightning (1-2, 0-0 CUNYAC),
scoring the game's first two goals. The first came in the game's 18th minute, as he took a cross from sophomore
Carlos Ribeiro (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx International). His second goal came just twenty minutes later, as he once again took a crossing pass, this time from
Aleh Kazak (Minsk, Belarus).
“I am feeling grateful,” said Niang after the game. “I have that mentality. I told the team that I could score two goals today. They were behind me.”
Niang now has three goals on the season.
Junior
Assami Vilian (New York, N.Y./Julia Richmond) scored Lehman's third goal, coming in the second half, as he converted a one-on-one opportunity against the Berkeley goalie. Senior
Marcos Coto-Batres (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Rye Neck) earned the shutout win in goal, making one save.
For the game, Lehman outshot Berkeley (0-3, 0-0 MAC), 21-2, and had more corner kicks, 7-1.
The Lightning have a quick turnaround, as they head to Utica, N.Y., for a weekend tournament. Lehman will face Elmira College on Saturday, then host Utica College on Sunday.
