BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College men's soccer team bounced back and cruised to a 9-1 victory over visiting St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. The Lightning scored early and often by netting five goals in the first half, while adding four in the second.
Senior forward Momar Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) had a hat-trick to lead the Lightning (4-7, 1-2 CUNY Athletic Conference). All three of his goals came in the first half, including three out of the first four goals of the contest.
Sophomore forward Brian Amaya (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) registered two goals of his own, as both tallies came within sixteen minutes of each other, late in the second half.
Junior forward Emmanuel Adesanlu (Lagos, Nigeria/Coker Secondary) also had a pair of goals. His first goal was the last one scored by the Lightning in the first half, and his second score opened up Lehman's second half attack.
Junior midfielder Ronniel Mendez (Matanzas, Cuba/Miami Southbridge) netted his ninth goal of the year, which was Lehman's ninth goal of the evening, at the 86:13 mark of the second half. Junior midfielder Abraham Enahoro (Lagos, Nigeria/E.G.S.) recorded a goal of his own, taking a pass from sophomore defensemen Maurice Whyte (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College) and dribbling through two defenders. Freshman midfielder Roger Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) contributed with two assists for the evening.
The Lightning outshot the overmatched and undermanned St. Joseph's College, 52-5. The Lightning also had all twelve corner kicks for the game.
Lehman is in the midst of a four-game home stretch, and will be back in action on the South Field on Wednesday, October 2, when Brooklyn College comes to town for a key CUNYAC contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
