Thiam Scores Twice in Wild 4-3 Loss to CSI

Box Score

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lehman College men's soccer team lost to host Staten Island on Saturday afternoon, 4-3, in a vital CUNY Athletic Conference match. Lehman is now 2-5 in the nine-team conference, while CSI improves to 4-3.

Lehman got on the board first, as junior Hugh Campbell (Bronx, N.Y./Evander Childs) took a crossing pass from senior Momar Thiam (Dakar, Senegal), and took a hard shot that was deflected by CSI's keeper and in the goal for a 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes later, the Dolphins tied the score after Lehman keeper Alejandro Romero (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) made an initial save, but gave up a rebound in front that found its way into the goal. The score remained knotted at 1-1 into halftime.

In the second half, the flood gates opened, as both teams scored almost at will.

In the first six minutes of the second half, CSI scored twice, taking a commanding 3-1 lead. In the 79th minute, Lehman broke through again, as Thiam found a wide open goal, with the assist from Campbell. Less than a minute later, CSI regained their two-goal lead, as Romero once again got a piece of the shot, but could not prevent a goal.

Lehman continued to pressure the ball, and had several chances down the stretch. After several offside calls, the Lightning finally broke through. With about 90 seconds to play, Thiam scored his second goal of the game, on a fast break 2-on-1 situation.

Thiam finished with two goals and one assist, while Campbell had one goal and one assist. Romero made eight saves in goal.

The Lightning have two remaining games in the regular season, beginning with a non-conference match against NYU-Polytech on Wednesday, October 16, at 5:00 p.m.
