BRONX, N.Y. – Four unanswered goals propelled the Lehman College men's soccer team to victory on Wednesday night, over visiting NYU-Poly, 4-1. This was the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Lightning. The result pushed Lehman to 6-10 on the year, while NYU-Poly remains winless at 0-11-1.
Junior midfielder Hugh Campbell (Bronx, N.Y./Evander Childs) led the way with three goals. His first goal tied the game for Lehman at one apiece, 23:54, into the first half. Campbell scored Lehman's next goal as well, off a corner kick, taken by junior midfielder Ronniel Mendez (Matanzas, Cuba/Miami Southbridge). Campbell completed the hat trick on a penalty kick, with just over a minute remaining in the contest.
Senior forward Momar Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) continues his offensive tear as he netted his 10th goal of the season to increase the Lightning's lead, to 3-1, with 6:53 left in the opening half. He now has scored in three of the team's last four games.
Junior midfielder Abraham Enahoro (Lagos, Nigeria/E.G.S.) contributed with two assists for the Lightning.
Freshman goalkeeper Alejandro Romero (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) started the game and made four saves for the Lightning. Classmate Jesus Marin (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Village Academy) stopped two shots in relief.
The Lightning will host Medgar Evers on Saturday, October 19, at 12:00 p.m. to conclude the regular season. It will also be Senior Day, with a pre-game ceremony honoring the departing seniors prior to the start of the game. It is also the first game of a doubleheader, as the Lehman women's team will host CCNY at 2:30 p.m.
