Men's Soccer Falls in CUNYAC Quarterfinals, 2-1, to CCNY

RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team had its season end today with a 2-1 loss to #2 seed CCNY in the Quarterfinal Round of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships. Lehman, the #7 seed, ends the season with a 7-11 record.

This is the second straight year that Lehman has lost to CCNY in the CUNYAC Quarterfinals.

Today, the game remained scoreless after the first half of play. Shots were relatively even, with Lehman having a slight edge, 7-6.

In the second half, CCNY broke through first, scoring in the 49th minute, when Fanhor Sanchez put a rebound past Lehman keeper Alejandro Romero (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains). But Lehman responded in the game's 77th minute, as junior Ronniel Mendez (Mantanzas, Cuba/Miami Southbridge) netted the equalizer on a pile up in front of the CCNY goal.

Lehman continued to press, and took shot after shot, but could not slip one past the keeper.

CCNY scored the game-winner on a set piece, with about eight minutes to play. On a corner kick, Jorge Galvez deftly placed a header in the far corner past Romero.

The Lightning pressed forward, and continued to pound the goal, but could not score.

For the game, Lehman had more shots than CCNY, 29-14, with 22 coming in the second half. Likewise, Lehman had 12 corner kicks, but could not capitalize.

Romero would make three saves on the day for Lehman.
