Baseball Loses to St. Joseph's of Brooklyn, 6-3

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team rallied, but it was too little, too late, as the Lightning fell to visiting St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, 6-3, in non-conference action Monday night. The Lightning have now dropped two games to SJC on the season.

The visiting Bears (13-2) jumped out to a 3-2 lead after two innings, rattling the confidence of Lehman starter Aneudi Garcia (New York, N.Y./Environmental Studies). After that, the right handed power pitcher settled down, and was masterful.

Lehman (6-8) got a single run back in the fourth, as second baseman Russbert Eugenio (Bronx, N.Y./Environmental Studies) singled, then came home on an RBI double by centerfielder Michael Liang (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center).

In the bottom of the eighth, Lehman scratched across a second run. Left fielder Miguel Nunez (Santo Domingo, D.R./George Washington) singled to left to start the inning, then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by designated hitter Michael Santana (Bronx, N.Y.). Justin Moises (New York, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) then came through with a pinch hit single to center, sending Nunez home.

In the top of the ninth, the Bears cemented the game with three runs for the win.

Lehman's final run came in the ninth, as catcher Edwin Marrero (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse) scored an unearned run.

Garcia went the distance in taking the loss, allowing ten hits and six runs in nine innings pitched, striking out three while walking none.

Lehman travels to Madison, N.J., on Tuesday, to face Drew University. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
