Baseball Drops 5-2 Decision to Old Westbury in Final Non-Conference Game of 2013 Season

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – After taking a 2-0 lead after five and a half innings, the Lehman College baseball team lost a 5-2 decision to host SUNY Old Westbury on Wednesday night, in non-conference action.

In the fifth inning, junior Kevin Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) singled home classmate Waldo Acosta (New York, N.Y./Bread and Roses) for the game's first run. In the sixth inning, Socrates Peralta (Santo Domingo, D.R./Morris) grounded into a bases-loaded double play, which scored centerfielder Michael Liang (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center), and the Lightning led 2-0.

In the bottom half of that inning, Old Westbury plated three runs to take the lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Old Westbury chased Lehman starter Wilfredo Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) en route to scoring two insurance runs, and the host Panthers took the win.

Lehman will now finish the regular season with three home non-conference games over the next week, starting with a matinee on Sunday, April 28.
