BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team had a season-high 23 runs on Tuesday night, beating the visiting Yeshiva University Maccabees, 23-9. Lehman scored in six of their eight at bats, and hammered out 22 base hits on the night.
With the win, Lehman is now 14-16 overall, while Yeshiva is 2-26. More importantly, Lehman is 6-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference, and has now clinched third place in the upcoming 2013 Championships. Yeshiva is an affiliate member of the CUNYAC in baseball only, and is in a dogfight with John Jay for the fourth and final post-season berth.
Freddy Parra (New York, N.Y./George Washington) earned the win by throwing six innings, striking out four while allowing four runs, all earned.
At the plate, ten different players had hits. Short stop Waldo Acosta (New York, N.Y./Bread and Roses) had a perfect night at the plate, with five hits in as many at bats, including a triple. Designated hitter Alberto German (Santo Domingo, D.R./Cenapec) had three hits and five RBI.
Lehman will host St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn in the regular season finale on Friday, May 3. Prior to the game, there will be a brief ceremony honoring the four seniors, who will be playing their final home game at Lehman.
