Pitching Falters in Baseball Loss to USMMA

Box Score

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Pitching woes hurt the Lehman College baseball team on Tuesday, as the Lightning dropped a 14-5 decision to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The non-conference opponent scored in six different innings for the win.

Lehman (9-10) jumped on the board first, as Edwin Marrero (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse) knocked a single up the middle to score Kevin Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton), who had singled to lead off the inning.

Lehman would not score again until after USMMA (12-9) had scored nine runs.

In the fourth inning, Alberto German (Santo Domingo, D.R./Cenapec) tripled, then got thrown out at the plate trying to score. Marrero, however, did score on the play.

The final three Lehman runs all came across in the sixth inning, on one hit and two USMMA errors.

Four different pitchers took the mound for Lehman. Starter Freddy Parra (New York, N.Y./George Washington) took the loss.

Marrero and German each had a pair of hits to pace the offense.

The baseball team takes a few days off before hosting CUNYAC foe Baruch College on Saturday, April 13.
