Men's Soccer Rallies, But Falls Short to CCNY, 3-2

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. - The Lehman College men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought, 3-2, decision to CUNY Athletic Conference rival, The City College of New York, on Saturday afternoon. The Lightning showed resiliency by leveling the score twice after trailing, during the physical contest.

Lehman (3-7-0, 1-2 CUNYAC) trailed early in the second half, 1-0, until junior midfielder Ronniel Mendez (Matanzas, Cuba/Miami Southbridge) knocked in the equalizer, after receiving the ball from junior midfielder Jonathan Moallem (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) with 37:34 left in regulation.

After the Beavers (2-6-1, 2-1-0 CUNYAC) regained the lead, the Lightning once again counter-attacked as junior midfielder Abraham Enahoro (Lagos, Nigeria/E.G.S.) took a feed from sophomore midfielder Aleh Kazak (Minsk, Belarus/School Number 152), and rifled the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net to knot the game up at two.

City College of New York took the lead for the third time in the game, and would hang on as Lehman's late scurry was not enough.

Both teams had several scoring opportunities throughout the game, with Lehman out-shooting CCNY, 19-15. Freshman goalkeeper Alejandro Romero (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) played extremely well, and made three saves for Lehman.

Lehman will be back in action on Monday, September 30, as part of a women's and men's soccer doubleheader against St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn. The women kick off at 5:30 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 8:00 p.m.
