Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – Lehman College men's soccer senior
Hugh Campbell scored his second goal of the match, just 28 seconds into the first overtime period, to lift Lehman to a thrilling 4-3 victory over CUNY Athletic Conference rival, York College, on Wednesday evening on the South Field.
Sophomore midfielder
Essosa Aluyi (Nagoya, Japan/Elmont Memorial) came off the bench in the second half and provided a spark for the Lightning (3-7, 1-2 CUNYAC) by scoring two goals of his own and picking up the assist on Campbell's game-winner in the extra session.
Less than two minutes into the second half, with Lehman trailing 1-0, Aluyi produced his first goal of the night on a rocket from 15-yards out to knot the score at one. After York (4-7, 2-2 CUNYAC) regained the lead, 2-1, Campbell (Bronx, N.Y./Evander Childs) was able to guide the ball through a sea of York defenders to Aluyi, who used his speed to beat the Cardinals' goalkeeper one-on-one and tie the score at two, with 21:23 remaining in regulation. Just over a minute later, Campbell tallied his first goal of the match, and fourth of the season, off a header to give Lehman its first lead of the contest, 3-2.
York would respond by scoring the game-tying goal off a corner opportunity with just 1:09 left to play in the second half. Regulation ended with the match tied at three.
Once overtime began, Lehman provided pressure by pushing the ball down to York's end. Aluyi crossed the ball to Campbell who tapped the ball into the net for the game-winner.
Aluyi and Campbell each picked up five points. Senior midfielder
Jonathan Moallem (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) recorded an assist and sophomore goalkeeper
Jesus Marin (East Harlem, N.Y./Manhattan Village Academy) made 10 saves to earn the win.
The Lightning will be back in action on the South Field on Saturday morning, as Lehman will battle Hunter College in another CUNY Athletic Conference contest. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
