Box Score 2 BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team made several adjustments on Saturday, and split a pair of CUNYAC games with Baruch College. The Lightning won the first game, 7-6, in eight innings, before losing Game Two by the same score. The games were originally schedules for MCU Park in Brooklyn, but were moved at the last minute to the South Field on Lehman's campus. Baruch remained the home team in both games.
With the score tied in the eighth inning of the opener, senior shortstop Waldo Acosta (New York, N.Y./Bread & Roses) walked and stole second base with one out. Senior leftfielder Kevin Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) laced a fastball to right field, where the ball was fielded cleanly by the right fielder, who threw out Hernandez at first. Acosta never stopped running on the play, and was safe at home with the eventual game-winning run. Junior Wilfredo Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's) earned the win in relief, as he shut the door in the seventh, then threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning to seal the victory. Senior right fielder Socrates Peralta (Santo Domingo, D.R./Morris) had a pair of 2-RBI doubles, one in the third, and another in the sixth.
In Game Two, Lehman held a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning, on a solo homerun by Peralta. But the Bearcats refused to yield, and rallied for the win. Senior Michael Liang (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) took the loss, as he was the victim of two Lehman errors in the bottom of the seventh inning. Liang did have three hits in the game, including a 2-RBI double in the third inning.
Lehman is now 5-17 overall, and 2-6 in the CUNYAC. The Lightning now close out the season with a five-game home stand, beginning with a doubleheader against SUNY Old Westbury on Wednesday, April 23.
