Baseball Can't Hold Lead, Falls to Old Westbury, 6-4

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team dropped a hard-fought non-conference game to the College at Old Westbury by a score of 6-4, on Wednesday evening on the South Field.

All four of Lehman's (5-18) runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior catcher Jaime Maldonado (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) delivered a bases loaded RBI single, then junior first baseman Carlos Alcantara (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) drove in two more runs with a single to extend the Lightning's lead to 3-0. With runners on second and third and one out, senior second baseman Waldo Acosta (New York, N.Y./Bread and Roses) hit a deep fly ball to left, allowing Maldonado to score Lehman's fourth run.

The Panthers (15-19) responded by scoring the last six runs to win the game, 6-4.

Junior pitcher Stephen Smith (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) was the starting pitcher for the Lightning, going four innings, giving up no runs, two hits, and striking out two batters. In relief, freshman pitcher Francisco Pena (New York, N.Y./Landmark) went an inning and a third, giving up no runs and fanning one batter.

The Lightning will be back in action next Wednesday, April 30, for the final CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader of the schedule, hosting Stevens Tech at 5:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Lehman will honor the team's seniors with a brief ceremony, beginning at 4:45.
