Women's Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches to Open Season

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the season-opening Oneonta State Invitational. In the first match of the new season, Lehman defeated Curry College from Mass., 3-1, before falling to Hartwick College, 3-0, in the nightcap.

Against Curry, Lehman dropped the first set, 25-23, then swept the following three, 25-15, 25-22, and 28-26. Senior Cari English (Yonkers, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) led the attack with 11 kills, while sophomore Salveira Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./RKA) added 10 kills and senior Julia Mercado (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) nine. Junior setter Imani Dubois (West Palm Beach, Fla./JP Taravella) had a team-high 27 assists.

Against Hartwick, set scores were 25-14, 25-18, 25-12.

On Saturday, Lehman will face the College of Mt. St. Mary at 10:00 a.m., before playing the hosts, Oneonta State, at 2:00 p.m.
