Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The #3 Lehman College women's volleyball team defeated #6 CSI, 3-1, in the CUNY Athletic Conference Quarterfinals, in the APEX Main Gym on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 17-25, and 25-20.
The Lightning (13-14) have now advanced to the CUNYAC Semifinals, where they will take on the #2 Hawks on Friday at 4:00 p.m., on the campus of Hunter College. Hunter defeated #7 York in straight sets.
Lehman was led by senior outside hitter
Jo-Marie Aquino, who tallied a match-high 17 kills with 13 digs. She also added three service aces.
Tied at 12 in the opening set, the Lightning exploded for a 6-1 run, highlighted by four kills from Aquino, to go up 18-13. Lehman never looked back and took the opening frame, 25-16.
In the second set, Lehman scored five unanswered points, capped off by a service ace from junior opposite hitter
Salveira Gonzalez, to give the Lightning a 14-9 advantage. CSI (8-17) never caught up as Lehman won the second set, 25-16, and took a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Dolphins would not go down without a fight, as they won the third set by a score 25-17 to pull within one. Lehman never held the lead at any point in the third stanza.
In the fourth set, Lehman and CSI fought tooth and nail. With the stanza tied at 16, The Lightning rallied to score the next four points to take the lead. After the Dolphins pulled to within 21-19, Lehman scored three unanswered points to earn a set-point opportunity. Aquino slammed home her 17
th kill of the match to send the Lightning to the CUNYAC Semifinals.
For the match, senior setter
Imani Dubois produced a match-high 23 assists with four service aces and 12 digs. Gonzalez slammed home six kills with three aces. Sophomore libero
Lizette Medina helped anchor the defense with 21 digs and chipped in on offense with five assists. Sophomore outside hitter
Lindsay Pantaleon added five kills, while freshman middle blocker
Yzaira Galan added two blocks.
If Lehman is able to knock off Hunter on Friday, they will play in the championship game later that night at 8:00 p.m. on the campus of Hunter College.
