Box Score 2 YAPHANK, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team dropped both ends of the doubleheader to Old Westbury, on Tuesday afternoon. The Lightning lost game one, 18-3, while falling in game two, 15-7.
In the first game, senior pitcher
Wilfredo Gonzalez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond's H.S. for Boys) started the game on the mound for the Lightning. He pitched 1.2 innings before getting into trouble, in the bottom of the second.
The Lightning's offense was provided by sophomore outfielder
Socrates Arevalo (Bronx, N.Y./South Bronx), senior infielder
Jhon Comas (Yonkers, N.Y./Gregorio Luperon), and freshman third baseman
Christopher Lopez (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.), who each hit solo home runs.
In the second game, junior pitcher
Ja'von Collins (Bronx, N.Y./Msgr. Scanlon) was the starter for the Lightning. He pitched three innings, giving up four earned runs, while striking out three hitters.
Down 4-0 in the top of the second, senior infielder
Stephen Smith (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) doubled to right-center field, scoring freshman outfielder
Carlo Francisco (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers), to shrink Old Westbury's lead to 4-1. However, it was not enough, as the Panthers were able to pile on runs to earn the sweep.
For the game, freshman outfielder
Miguel Rodriguez (Santiago, D.R./H.S. of World Cultures) scored two runs, on one hit, and drew a walk, while senior outfielder
Danny Rodriguez (New York, N.Y./Pennsbury) picked up two hits and a run batted in. Arevalo scored one run, hit a single, drew a walk, and stole a base. Comas stole two bases, while senior first baseman
Carlos Alcantara (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.
The Lightning will have their home opener on Sunday, against Mount Saint Vincent on the South Field, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
