Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team split both ends of the doubleheader against St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn, on Friday afternoon, on the South Field. Lehman dropped game one, 5-4. In the second game, senior Stephen Smith hit a walk-off RBI single to left field, to complete a come-from-behind victory for the Lightning, 8-7.

In the opening game, Lehman trailed 4-0 after four and a half innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Lehman exploded for four runs. Sophomore second baseman Thomas Montilli (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) began Lehman's run production, by singling to centerfield to score freshman third baseman Christopher Lopez (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.). After sophomore catcher Matthew Prevosti (Staten Island, N.Y./CSI H.S.) was hit by a pitch, freshman outfielder Miguel Rodriguez (Santiago, D.R./H.S. of World Cultures) smacked a three-run home run, to tie the game at four.

In the top of the seventh, St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn scored one run to go up 5-4. In the bottom frame, with two outs and the tying run on base, Smith (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) came up to pinch hit. He flew out to right field to give the Bear a game one victory, 5-4.

Junior pitcher Matthew Brown (Astoria, N.Y./Holy Cross) started the game and went six-plus innings, giving up three earned runs, to take the loss.

In game two, Lehman (2-5) trailed 7-4, and was down to the last three outs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore outfielder Socrates Arevalo (Bronx, N.Y./South Bronx) led off the inning with a walk, and then advanced to third on a double by senior infielder Jhon Comas (Yonkers, N.Y./Gregorio Luperon). With runners on second and third, nobody out, senior first baseman Carlos Alcantara (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) picked up a run batted in on a groundout, to score Arevalo, and pull Lehman within two runs. One batter later, Lopez laced a single to left field, putting runners on the corners.

Two batters later, and runners on second and third, a throwing error by the Bears (3-8) scored Lopez and Comas, tying the game at seven. Smith was up next and scorched a single to left field, scoring senior outfielder Danny Rodriguez (New York, N.Y./Pennsbury), to complete the comeback win for the Lightning, by a score of 8-7.

Earlier in the game, Comas tallied an RBI single to score Miguel Rodriguez to put Lehman up 1-0, in the bottom of the first. In the home half of the second, sophomore catcher Rainiel Baez's (Santo Domingo, D.R./Bathgate) sacrifice fly made it 2-0 in favor of the home team. Next up was Miguel Rodriguez, who singled to left field, scoring Smith, to extend Lehman's lead to 3-0.

With Lehman up 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Lopez doubled to left field, scoring Comas, to extend the Lightning's lead to 4-1. St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn scored six unanswered runs to go up 7-4, but Lehman executed a four-run rally in the final inning, capped off by Smith's heroics, to win the game.

Junior pitcher Ja'von Collins (Bronx, N.Y./Msgr. Scanlon) picked up the win in relief, pitching three shutout innings and giving up just one hit.

The Lightning will back in action on Tuesday, for a non-conference road game against Manhattanville, at 4:00 p.m.
