Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team defeated Yeshiva University, 14-3, in non-conference action on the South Field, on Tuesday afternoon. As a team, the Lightning hit four home runs.
Sophomore pitcher
Joel Duran (Harlem, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) earned the victory for the Lightning (9-11) on the mound, going seven innings, giving up no earned runs while scattering four hits, and striking out eight batters.
Lehman's run production began in the home half of the second, when freshman outfielder
Miguel Rodriguez (Santiago, D.R./H.S. of World Cultures) tripled to bring home sophomore second baseman
Thomas Montilli (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) and classmate
Matthew Prevosti (Staten Island, N.Y./CSI H.S.).
Miguel Rodriguez would end up scoring on an error at third base, to put Lehman up 3-0. Later in the frame, senior shortstop
Jhon Comas (Yonkers, N.Y./Gregorio Luperon) drilled a two-run homer to right field that put Lehman up 5-0.
In the bottom of the third, senior first baseman
Carlos Alcantara (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) belted a solo home run to left field to make it 6-0. In the bottom of the sixth, senior infielder
Stephen Smith (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) drilled a two-run shot to put Lehman up, 12-0. Later in the inning, sophomore catcher
Rainiel Baez (Santo Domingo, D.R./Bathgate) came up as a pinch-hitter and produced his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to left, to make it 14-0 in favor of the home team.
In the top of the ninth, Comas came pitched in relief and struck out two batters to clinch Lehman's 14-3 win.
For the game, Alcantara went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. At the plate, Comas went 3-for-3 with three extra base-hits, including the home run, and three runs batted in. Sophomore infielder
Jason Laguna (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) produced a triple and scored a run.
Lehman will return to the South Field, on Wednesday, for a non-conference doubleheader with Wesley College, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
