Box Score CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. – The #3 Lehman College baseball team fell to #4 City College, 10-2, in the second day of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships, on Coney Island on Friday afternoon. The Lightning have now concluded the 2015 season, but not without success, as they increased their win total by more than double from 2014.
The Beavers (15-19) scored two runs in the top half of the first, and just as many in the third, to build an early lead and would never look back. In the bottom of the third, the Lightning (14-14) had runners on second and third, with one out. Sophomore outfielder Socrates Arevalo (Bronx, N.Y./South Bronx) singled to score freshman outfielder Carlo Francisco (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) to pull Lehman to within three runs, at 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth, senior outfielder Danny Rodriguez (New York, N.Y./Pennsbury) produced an RBI on a groundout for Lehman's second run.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher Francisco Pena (New York, N.Y./Landmark) started the game and went three innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits, and striking out one batter. Junior pitcher Matthew Brown (Astoria, N.Y./Holy Cross) pitched four innings in relief, giving up six earned runs on eight hits, while fanning one batter. Sophomore pitcher Joel Duran (Harlem, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and classmate Jason Laguna (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) each pitched one scoreless inning.
For the game, Arevalo also drilled a triple and scored a run. Sophomore catcher Matthew Prevosti (Staten Island, N.Y./CSI H.S.), produced two hits, while freshman third baseman Christopher Lopez (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman H.S.) added a single. Francisco doubled to lead off the third and would eventually come around to score on Arevalo's single.
