BRONX, NY --- The Lehman College men's and women's swimming and diving team hosted Mount Saint Mary's College on Friday night at the APEX Aquatics Center in the Bronx. The Lightning men prevailed 144-79 while the women's team fell short against the Knights, 123-86.
 
Anthony Preda, competing in the final home dual match of his illustrious career, put the exclamation point on his season as he crushed his own record in the men's 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.91. Preda also took the gold in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:52.37, and swam a leg of the winning 200 yard medley relay with a combined time of 1:43.44.
 
For the women, Gabriela Rodriguez was tops for the Lightning, winning both the 1-meter diving (146.10) and the 3-meter diving (167.55 points).
 
Enes Mernica claimed three individual gold medals for Lehman, winning the 1650 freestyle (18:31.15), the 400 IM (4:54.20) and the 500 freestyle (5:14.96). Mernica was also joined Preda on the winning 200 yard medley relay.
 
Angela Mejia recorded claimed the gold medal in the women's 400 yard IM with a time of 5:27.80 and placed second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:48.97.
 
Jeremy Guerra was first in the 100 yard freestyle, hitting the pads at 50.88. Guerra also placed second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.25.
 
Melody Ovalles took silver in both the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:43.18 and in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:36.70.
 
During the first intermission, the Swimming and Diving program and the Lehman College took time to honor their 13 graduating seniors from this year's team as part of senior night. Each of them has contributed the time and dedication necessary to succeed with the Lightning, and they will forever be part of the Lehman Athletics family.
 
Lehman will be back in the pool on Monday, January 25^th when they travel to Brooklyn College to face the Bulldogs in a 6:00 p.m. conference matchup.
