Box Score 2 THROGGS NECK, NY --- The Lehman College baseball team went into Throggs Neck, New York on Saturday afternoon and split their two games against host SUNY Maritime, winning the first game, 4-2, before falling short in the second, 8-3.
The Lightning of Lehman (6-12) got a huge boost in game one from the bat of sophomore third baseman
Natanael Toribio. Toribio gave Lehman the lead in the top of the third inning with an RBI sacrifice fly that scored junior left fielder
Socrates Arevalo, going up 1-0. In the top of the fifth inning, Toribio hit his second home run of the year, going over the wall to left center as he and sophomore center fielder
Carlo Francisco both crossed home plate to put the Lightning up 3-0. Finally in the top of the seventh, Francisco drove home Arevalo again with an RBI single. Junior pitcher
Thomas Montilli picked up his third win of the season, pitching four and two-thirds innings and allowing no runs while striking out three Privateers.
The win gave Lehman their first four game winning streak of the season.
The Privateers of Maritime (11-5) took the second game despite the top three players in the Lightning lineup hitting a combined .545 with two hits each. Toribio scored two runs while Francisco and junior second baseman
Steve Cuello each had two hits. Sophomore first baseman
Christopher Lopez hit an RBI single to right field in the top of the fifth.
Lehman will take the field next on Thursday when they travel to Rutgers University-Newark for a 3:30 p.m. game.
