Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's soccer team had some great opportunities to secure a win late in the second half and in overtime, but could not find the back of the net again as they played the College of Old Westbury to a 1-1 draw Thursday afternoon at the South Field in the 2016 opener.
The Lightning (0-0-1) got their lone goal of the day from Omar Moro (Bronx, N.Y.), who made a fantastic play from the top of the box to beat the keeper in the 34th minute. Goalkeeper Jesus Marin (East Harlem, N.Y.) made three saves, while Irvin Barreto (Brooklyn, N.Y.) did not allow a goal in the final 44:36 of play.
Old Westbury (0-0-1) got their only goal on Adan Velasquez's score at 13:41 to put them up early. Following Moro's amazing tally before the half, both teams were held without goals. Late in the second half, Lehman had a chance with the keeper out of position but could not get the score before heading to overtime.
In the final minute of the first overtime, Moro and Ramone Rowe (Bronx, N.Y) each had prime shots in front of the net to no avail. The teams played two 10-minute overtime periods without a goal, and played to a tie.
Lehman seeks their first win of the season in a road matchup tomorrow against Sarah Lawrence College. Start time in Bronxville, N.Y. is set for 7:00 p.m.
