Bronx, N.Y. - Both of the Lehman College swim teams improved to 1-1 on the season by sweeping a meet with Old Westbury on Wednesday at the Apex pool. The Men prevailed by a score of 111-85, while the women edged the Panthers, 104-87.
Lehman got off to a quick start by winning the 200 yard medley relay for both the men and women. The men's team of
Christopher Fischer,
Anton Kyrylenko,
Adam Acevedo and
Andres Rodriguez posted a winning time of 1:48.26, while the women's mix of
Sarina Eshtiaghi,
Yaidee Nieves,
Angela Mejia and
Belkys Perez won in a time of 2:08.89.
Fischer also prevailed in the 200 free (2:01.83). Rodriguez won the 50 free in a clocking of 23.88, while Acevedo took first in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:07.81. Finally, the combination of Acevedo,
Siprian Mayol,
Ryan Sanchez and
Francis Turbi won the 200 free relay with a clocking of 1:43.99. Sanchez also won the 1000 free earlier in the day.
Escardo Castelan and
Glenn Rodriguez swept the diving.
After being part of the winning relay team to open the day for the Lightning, Eshtiaghi, whom set the school mark in the 100 butterfly last meet, went on to win the 200 free (2:10.42) and the 100 butterfly (1:07.81). Other winners for the women included
Angela Mejia, who took the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:37.23,
Yaidee Nieves, who captured first in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:23.33 and the pairings of
Caroline Layme,
Teresa Hernandez,
Christina Hitchman and
Daniella Rocha, who prevailed in the 200 free relay with a time of 2:23.54.
The Lehman College swimming and diving teams return to the pool on Monday, November 20 at 6PM when the face Purchase College on the road.
