Lightning Take Two From John Jay

Bronx, NY – The Lehman College baseball team took both ends of the doubleheader against John Jay winning the first game 9-6 and the second 10-8.

In the first contest, Lehman got on the board early as Jeff Ledesma crack a homer over the right field fence to give the Lightning a 2-0 lead.  The Lightning were able to manufacture another run in the first to extend their lead.  Ledesma added another rbi in the second with a single that scored Jaime Maldonado.  Also in the second Natanael Toribio hit a two bagger to plate Ledesma and Geraldo Rodriguez. The Bloodhounds got on the board in the third as they posted four runs to cut into the Lightning lead.  But in the bottom half of the frame the Lightning got one back on a Francis Vasquez single to right field that scored Carlo Francisco.  John Jay plated two more in the fourth to cut the Lehman advantage to 7-6.  The Lightning added a big pair insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Rodriguez singled to score Steve Cuello and Juan Arias doubled to plate Ledesma and Cuello.  Harrison Paulino came in with the bases loaded and one out to earn his first save of the season.  Paulino got Bryan Garcia to file out to right and Ledesma laid out on a sharp hit line drive and was able to make the catch.  Manny Velasquez started for Lehman and got he win pitching six innings and striking out six. 

In the nightcap, the Lightning fell behind early as the Bloodhounds plated five runs in the first three innings.  The Lightning bats came around in the bottom of the third as Lehman batted around and put seven runs on the scoreboard all with two outs.  Big blows in the inning included doubles by Francisco and Matt Prevosti and was as a home run to left field by Marcus Figueroa .  The Bloodhounds battled back plating a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take an 8-7 lead.  However, Lehman answered right back in the bottom of the sixth with three of their own.  Back to back singles by Ledesma and Toribio left the Lightning with first and third and two outs.  Francisco then came up a belted a ball over the left field fence to give the Lightning a 10-8 lead.     Prevosti was called upon to get the save as he retired all three batters he faced including the final out catch in left field by Toribio as he was going over the fence.  Anthony Riley was credited with the victory. 

The Lightning look to seep the three game series on Saturday afternoon.  The game will be played at Fordham University with first pitch scheduled for 12:30 PM. 

Notes: 
In game one, Ledesma went 3-4 with three rbis and two runs scored.  Rodriguez, Toribio, Arias and Chris Lopez all had multiple hits.  Rodriguez also scored three runs.  Toribio had two rbi. 

In game two, Cuello, Ledesma, Francisco and Figueroa all had multiple hits as the Lightning banged out 11 hits.  Fransisco was credited with five rbi in the night cap.
