Bronx, N.Y. – Junior
Natanael Toribio went five-for-five and homered three times as the Lehman College baseball team outlasted the College of Mt. Saint Vincent, 14-11, Wednesday night at the South Field.
The Lightning have won three of their last four games, and improve to 5-7 overall including 3-0 at home.
Toribio smacked homers in the first, fourth and eighth inning while driving in four runs and scoring three.
Jeffrey Ledesma collected three hits and three RBI, including a three-run homer in the fourth. They also got two RBI from
Christopher Lopez, and a run each driven in by
Carlo Francisco and
Frances Vasquez.
On the mound,

Christopher Encarnacion tossed two scoreless relief frames, then
Richard Villar closed out the ninth to earn the save.
Lehman jumped ahead with two runs each in the first and second innings led by a Toribio two-run homer and a Vasquez RBI double. The Dolphins (4-10) chipped away in the third and fourth with three runs of their own.
The Lightning extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a six-run inning. Lopez would score on an error on a fielder's choice followed by a
Brandon Castillo sacrifice fly put the team up 6-3. They would continue with back-to-back home runs by Ledesma and Toribio to push the advantage to 10-3.
Mt. Saint Vincent would get a solo homer in the fifth, then scored four in the sixth to pull within 10-9. The squad would answer with two in the bottom half of the frame thanks to a Francisco RBI grounder and a Lopez run-scoring double.
In the seventh, the Dolphins would threaten with the bases loaded, but Encarnacion would come in and would come through with a strikeout and a line out to escape the jam without any runs. Toribio belted his third homer of the game in the bottom of the eighth, then a Lopez sac fly padded the lead.
Villar came in the ninth and after allowing two (one earned), he induced a grounder to short for the final out of the game.
The Lightning return to action tomorrow when they travel to New Jersey to face Montclair State in non-conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and live stats will be available on Montclair's website.
