Throggs Neck, NY – The Lehman College (6-14) baseball team dropped a non-conference contest at Maritime (15-9) 13-9.
Lehman fell behind early the Privateers scored nine runs in the first three innings. The Lightning rallied in the fifth with five runs of their own.
Frances Vasquez drew a one out walk which was followed by a
Steve Cuello single through the right side. Matt Prevosti then doubled down the left field line to score Vasquez. A Jeff Ledesma single and a
Natanael Toribio sac fly plated two more runs. Ledesma scored when Chris Lopez crushed a home run to left. The Lightning added two more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-7. The Lightning were able to load the bases on a single and a pair of walks. A Prevosti fielder's choice and a Toribio single had Lehman down two. Lehman inched closer in the eighth when they generated a run on a walk and three singles. The Privateers thwarted comeback when they plated four runs in their half of the eighth.
Brandon Castillo led off the ninth with a homer but that was as close as the Lightning would get.
Prevosti was 4 of 6 at the plate with two rbi. Cuello added three hits. Toribio and Lopez each had a pair. Both teams banged out 15 hits.
The Lightning look to regroup Wednesday afternoon on the South Field as they play host to Purchase. First pitch is 3:00 PM.
