Box Score Bronx, NY – The Lightning (5-9) squandered a 9-7 lead in the ninth inning falling to the Beavers (4-7) 12-9 in a CUNYAC baseball game. The game was played on the South Field and in a rare occurrence the Lightning were designated the visiting team.
Natanael Toribio kept his hot bat alive as he went three for three with a walk and a run scored. Chris Lopez and Matt Prevosti also garnered three hits. As a team the Lightning knocked out 16 base hits.
After the first inning the Lightning found themselves down 3-1. CCNY added a run in the fourth but Lehman rallied in the sixth scoring four runs. Toribio led off the frame with a single through the left side and promptly stole second.
Juan Arias followed with a single of his own as Toribio moved to third.
Carlo Francisco was able to reach on an error that moved Arias to second and plated Toribio. After a ground out, Prevosti singled to load the bases.
Geraldo Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice that scored Arias.
Steve Cuello then doubled to center field scoring Rodriguez and Francisco to give the Lightning a 5-4 lead. Lehman added two more in the seventh. Ledesma led off the inning with a home run, his team leading sixth of the season. With two outs, Francisco doubled and advanced to third on a passed ball. Prevosti drove him in with a single down the left field line. CCNY rallied to score three in the eighth to tie the game at seven. In the ninth, Francisco and Lopez knocked back to back doubles to give the Lightning an 8-7 lead. Lopez then scored on an error to double the Lehman advantage. In the bottom of the ninth the Beavers were able to load the bases with two outs. Brendan Murp delivered a single that scored two to tie the game. Cooper York then sent the ball over the outfield fence to score three for the final runs of the afternoon.
The Lightning will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon at New Jersey City University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
