Box Score Old Westbury, N.Y. -- The Lehman College baseball team led for most of the game, but would allow two runs in the bottom of the eighth in a 4-3 loss to the College of Old Westbury Thursday night at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Center.
With the loss, the Lightning fall to 7-21 while the Panthers improve to 16-13 overall.
Brandon Castillo and
Matthew Prevosti each drove in a run on singles, while
Christopher Lopez and
Jeffrey Ledesma (two hits) each scored a run. On the mound,
Harrison Paulino would allow three earned runs with three strikeouts over eight innings to drop to 0-2 on the season.
Lehman struck first in the game with two runs, as Castillo would rope an RBI single to score Ledesma. Prevosti would follow with a base hit to right to plate Castillo to push their lead to 2-0.
The Panthers would even the score with runs in the first and second inning to tie the game, but the Lightning would regain the advantage in the fourth advantage after a passed ball brought in Lopez to score. They would have more chances to score in the fifth with two runners in scoring position, but could not capitalize. Paulino would get in trouble in the seventh, but would notch a called strike three with runners on second and third.
In the bottom of the eighth, Old Westbury would threaten with two runners on base then Paul Rapoli would rip a two-run double into the gap to recapture the lead. The Panthers would strike out the side in the ninth inning to close out the win.
The team looks to avoid a three-game losing streak tomorrow, when they travel to Patchogue to face off with St. Joseph's (L.I.) on the road. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
