Baseball's Late Game Rally Comes Up Short Against SJC-LI

Box Score Patchogue, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team's late game rally comes up short in an 11-8 loss to the St. Joseph's College of Long Island Golden Eagles at the Gregg Alfano Field. The loss gives the Lightning its third consecutive loss, and a 7-21 record, while the Golden Eagles move to 18-9 overall.

Baseball drew first blood on the nine-inning game in the top of the third as Chris Lopez drew the bases loaded walk to bring in Nathanael Toribio who reached base on a base on a base on balls, giving the Lightning a 1-0 early lead.
SJC-LI claimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a 2-run home run by Lou Doria. The Lightning tied the game in the following half inning as Lopez doubled down the left field line to drive in Brandon Castillo.

In the bottom of the sixth, baseball surrendered a season high 9 runs in an inning as 14 Golden eagles batted in the bottom of the 6th to take a commanding 11-2 lead.

The late game rally began in the top of the 7th as Matt Prevosti singled to left field to bring in Jeffrey Ledesma, cutting the deficit to 11-3. In the next inning, Lightning scored 3 more runs on an RBI single by Steve Cuello, bringing in Juan Arias. Ledesma hit a fly ball that resulted in an error by the right fielder that brought in both Cuello and Martin Bueno.

Lightning would enter the top of the 9th trailing 11-6. Cuello drew a bases loaded walk to score Jaime Maldonado. Toribio grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Arias to score. The Lightning couldn't complete the comeback against the Golden Eagles, dropping the game 11-8. The Lightning left 13 runners on base for the game.

The Lightning will travel to Madison, New Jersey Monday afternoon to battle Fairleigh Dickinson University at 3:30 PM.
