Box Score Bronx, N.Y. – Despite two home runs from
Carlo Francisco, the Lehman College baseball team allowed a six-run seventh inning to lose to Baruch College, 15-10, Saturday afternoon at the South Field.
Francisco paced the Lightning (5-12) in a losing effort, going three-for-five with two runs scored and five runs batted in.
Jeffrey Ledesma drove in two on two hits, while
Matthew Prevosti smacked three hits of his own.
Christopher Lopez connected on a single in the eighth for his 100th career hit.
Gilberto Mendoza Jr. led the way for the Bearcats (7-10) with three hits, including two doubles, and four RBI in the win. Dan Daley belted a two-run home run, while Raymond Maurer and Edwin St. Hilaire each drove in two as well. Matthew Fazio struck out five over four relief innings to earn the victory.
Baruch struck first in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Mendoza, but the Lightning would come right back in the bottom half and Francisco's three-run shot gave them a 3-2 edge. After starting pitcher Emmanuel Vasquez tossed scoreless second and third frames, he would allow a Maurer RBI single and a Ramon Moreta bases-loaded walk to give away the lead.
Jaime Maldonaldo's run-scoring single evened the score at 4-4, then after a Daley two-run homer Francisco belted a two-run shot of his own in the fifth to tie it at 6 apiece. After falling behind 7-6, they would tally three runs in the sixth on a Ledesma two-run single and a
Rafael Delgadillo bases-loaded walk but would squander the bases loaded with a chance to extend their lead.
The seventh inning saw Baruch take advantage of Lehman's errors in the field, and would pour in six runs in the frame to put them ahead 13-9. They would tack on two more in the ninth, and would shut the door in the bottom half to earn the win.
Lehman returns to action tomorrow afternoon, when they host City College of New York in a doubleheader at the South Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and game two will follow around 3. Live stats will be made available on LehmanAthletics.com.
