Box Score Bronx, N.Y. -- The Lehman College baseball team took game one of a doubleheader against CCNY, 11-5, then allowed a comeback in the fifth inning of game two to split the doubleheader, 9-7, Sunday afternoon on the South Field.
Brandon Castillo led the Lightning (6-13) in the first game by going two-for-three with two runs scored and four RBI, paced by a fifth-inning grand slam to cap off the frame.
Natanael Toribio belted a three-run homer, while
Jaime Maldonado hammered a solo homer of his own.Â
Steve Cuello,
Juan Arias, and
Christopher Lopez each plated a run in the win.
Jose Albrincole pitched a complete-game and struck out six for his first win of the 2017 campaign.
Lehman put the first two runs on the board early on a Lopez RBI double in the first and a Maldonaldo homer in the second. The Beavers (6-9) would even the score following a Anthony Caccahione two-run single in the third. They would go up after a run scored in the fourth followed by an Anthony Sautter two-run double to extend the CCNY lead to 5-2.
The bottom of the fifth saw the Lightning bat around as Cuello and Arias each plated a run on singles. Toribio would belt a three-run homer, then would load the bases again as Castillo smashed a grand slam to cap off the scoring in the victory.
In game two, the Lightning built a five-run lead thanks to a Lopez three-run home run and a Cuello two-run double. CCNY would chip away at the deficit in the third and fourth innings, plating four runs to cut it to 5-4. Lopez (four RBI in the game, five total) drove in
Jeffrey Ledesma on a single, then Castillo drove him in on a base hit and Lehman took a 7-5 lead into the sixth.
The Beavers would battle back in the top of the sixth, thanks to an Elmy Antonio RBI single, then Adrian Pena followed with a two-run double to even the score at 7-7. Anthony Sautter delivered the go-ahead RBI single off
Anthony Riley, and a second run scored on an error.
The Lightning got the tying run up at the plate in the sixth but could not push a run across. They were retired in order in the seventh inning as CCNY closed out the win.
Up next for Lehman is a matchup on the road against Maritime College Tuesday night. First pitch in Throggs Neck is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
