Bronx, N.Y. – Four Lehman College athletics teams will be in action on Thursday as the men's and women's swimming/diving squads hosts Baruch College in CUNYAC dual meet, while men's and women's indoor track and field sides travels to compete at the West Point Open.
Swimmers Stage Home Finale Against Bearcats
Lehman's swimming and diving teams will stage its regular season home finale on Thursday at The APEX Pool against Baruch Bearcats with the first race set for 6 pm.
The Lightning men (2-3; 0-0 CUNYAC) have not competed since December 5, 2019 when they lost to former conference rival College of Staten Island (CSI), 159-60 at The APEX Pool.
Anton Kyrylenko took second in 100 Freestyle (53.74), while
Esgardo Castelan finished runner-up in one-meter (160.80) and three-meter diving (16.2.15) events.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats (7-2; 2-0 CUNYAC) won their last CUNYAC dual on Tuesday against visiting Brooklyn College,125-79, at ARC Aquatic Center.
Baruch men's squad hold an 11-6 head-to-head record against Lehman since 2003. The Bearcats have also won nine of the last 11 dual meets. In the previous encounter held at ARC Aquatic Center on January 10, 2019, hosts won 97-73. Kyrylenko prevailed in 100 Breaststroke for the Lightning in a time of 1:15.86.
The Lightning women (3-3; 0-1 CUNYAC), whom also haven't competed in almost a month, dropped its last dual encounter against visiting CSI, 128-69, on Dec. 5, 2019.
Sarina Eshtiaghi won the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke clocking in at 1:05.86 and 1:04.94, respectively. Eshtiaghi was also part of the winning 200 Medley Relay team along with
Patricia Gonzalez, Christina Hichman and
Paola Gonzalez finishing with a time of 2:19.99.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats (8-4; 3-0 CUNYAC) are coming off a 112-67 victory against visiting Brooklyn on Tuesday at ARC Aquatic Center.
Baruch women have won 17 consecutive dual meets against Lehman since 2003. In the last encounter between the two sides, the Bearcats posted a 103-83 home victory on Jan. 10, 2019. Eshtiaghi won 200 Freestyle (2:21.76) and 100 Backstroke (1:10.89), while
Paola Gonzalez posted a 1:31.32 to claim 100 Breaststroke.
Track/Field Stars Head To West Point For Indoor Invitational
Both Lehman's indoor track and field stars will once again travel to West Point, N.Y. to compete in another invitational meet hosted by U.S. Military Academy (Army) on Thursday at 2 pm.
The Lightning have not seen action since they took part at the Crowell Open Invitational Meet hosted by Army on Dec. 7, 2019.
Max Dell-Thibodeau led Lehman men with a 13th place finish at the Crowell Open in a time of 5:00.60 in the mile, while he also placed 10th in the 3000 in a time of 9:55.49.
Stephen Matthews captured fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.82m while
Densen Curwen and
Jinesh Shaji finished sixth and seventh with marks of 5.49 and 4.98 m.
On the women's side,
Tyla Dupree finished sixth in 400 meter in a time of 1:11.53, while
Glory Odeh captured fourth place in the 500 meter clocking in at 1:27.02.
Shanique James finished fifth in the 800 meter after posting a 2:51.22 and she also finished sixth in the mile in a time of 6:22.84. Odeh also competed in the pentathlon where she finished third with 2155 points.
