Bronx, N.Y. – The Lehman College swimming team concluded its regular season on Monday evening at The APEX Pool with both sides (men's and women's) defeating Brooklyn College, while the women's squad fell to John Jay College in conference match-up.
The Lightning men (3-5) posted a 79-62 victory against Brooklyn Bulldogs (0-3) as
Carlos Alonso,
Gerald Cepeda and
Brendan McManus led the way for the hosts on Monday. Alonso finished first in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:10.88, while Cepeda took gold in the 50 Freestyle clocking in at 27.93. McManus claimed top spot in the 100 Breaststroke (1:14.26) and he joined Alonso, Cepeda and
Andres Estrella as they claimed gold in the 200 Medley Relay (2:06.93). Also, finishing first for at the 500 Freestyle for Lehman was
Christopher Ramirez with a time of 7:31.74.
The Lightning women (3-7; 0-4 CUNYAC) topped Bulldogs 80-61, however they lost 104-42 to John Jay Bloodhounds (4-6; 3-3 CUNYAC) on Monday. Lehman was paced by
Arlette Garcia-Estudillo, Elizabeth DeLaCruz and
Patricia Gonzalez as they each achieved gold in three respective events. Garcia-Estudillo won the 50 Freestyle (37.31) and 100 Backstroke (2:02.67), while
Patricia Gonzalez took first in 100 Breaststroke (1:35.51) and 200 IM (3:22.70). DeLaCruz claimed the 200 Freestyle (3:03.15) and 500 Freestyle (8:38.70), while she was joined by
Patricia Gonzalez, Garcia-Estudillo and
Paola Gonzalez as the winning 200 Medley Relay Team (2:51.45).
Paola Gonzalez also finished first in the 100 Butterfly clocking in at 1:43.70.
The Lightning will now compete at the CUNYAC Championships this weekend at The APEX Pool.
