Box Score After several weather postponements, the Lightning baseball season finally got underway this afternoon as the Lightning traveled to Brooklyn to face the undefeated Violets of NYU (9-0) at Maimonides Park in Coney Island.
Lehman dropped both ends of the doubleheader falling 24-5 and 12-0. The Lightning could not get the offense on track as their bats were kept quiet by the NYU pitchers. Lehman did manage to score five runs on three hits in the second inning. However, that was after NYU plated 14 runs in their first at bat. Lehman started the second inning with
Eamon Maher and Ransell Pinedo Pichardo both being hit by pitch. After walks to
Justin Nunez and
Nomar Rijo the Lightning got on the board.
Tran Hennessy then drew a walk which was followed by a
Patrick Ortiz ground out to first which also scored a run.
Glennd Jarrin proceeded to single to center to bring home Rijo.
Jeremmy Santos was hit by pitch.
Kyle James singled to right to cap the Lightning scoring. NYU added eight runs in the home half of the second and two more in the fourth to end the scoring of the game.
In game two, the Lightning only managed one hit. Rijo singled to left to lead off the second. However, the Lightning were unable to capitalize.The Violets scored five in the first and six more in the second inning. After the Lightning shut down NYU in the third, the Violets added an insurance run in the fourth for the final margin of victory.
The Lightning are scheduled to play two on Wednesday afternoon as Yeshiva comes to the South Field.
