New Britain, Conn. – The Lehman College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams provided a strong performance finishing in the top 10 in 17 events on Saturday during the Central Connecticut State University Invitational as it competed along side Division I and II squads.
The Lightning women were once again led by
Glory Odeh as she won gold medal in the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:07.65) and silver in the 400 Meter Dash (1:01.96). Odeh claimed another silver medal along with
Victory Ike,
Aminata Sissoko and
Elsie Sapathy at the 4x400 Meter Relay as they clocked in at 4:40.76. Odeh also earned bronze alongside Sapathy, Sissoko and
Jahla Lassiter in the 4x100 Meter Relay (53.50).
Also in the women's competition,
Tiffiny Azubuike (19.72m), Jennasia Nelson (26.20m) and
Uzoma Ikeanusi (31.00m) finished in the top three, respectively, in Hammer Throw event, while
Effie Pang captured the bronze medal in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (19:42.83).
The Lehman men also had a top three sweep of Hammer Throw event as
Kayshaun Higgs (15.93m), Kennedy Ebeziem (16.59m) and
Esgardo Castelan (16.68m) claimed the honors, while team of
Tony Haripersaud,
Kuron Williams,
Keyshawn Peterson and
Jayden Fernandez won the bronze medal at 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 46.37. Fernandez,
Ismael Barry, Haripersaud,
Obinna Njoku II finished fifth in the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:06.54), while Williams took sixth place in the 110 Meter Hurdles (18.47).
Jayden Fernandez also got the sixth spot in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 56.58.
The Lightning return to action on Sunday when they compete at the Yale University Springtime Invitational.
