Box Score 2 Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The Lehman College baseball team dropped both encounters of non-conference twin-bill at Maritime College, by scores of 5-0, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at Reinhart Field. The Lightning fall to an 0-7 overall record, while the Privateers improved to a 9-6 mark.
After a scoreless first inning, Maritime got on the board with two runs in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth for all the offense needed in the opener of the doubleheader. The highlight for Lehman was infielder Ranssel Pinedo whom single avoided a no-hitter by the hosts.
In the nightcap, the Privateers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings. In the top of the fourth, the Lightning got on the board when outfielder Javaun Smith crossed home plate after teammate Elias Fermin hit a sacrifice fly. However, Maritime scored six more runs in the next three innings to seal the victory. Infielder Jeremmy Santos went two-for-three, with a double for Lehman, while Pinedo also had a double to extend his hitting streak to four games.
The Lightning are back in action on Tuesday (March 21st) when they travel to Montclair State University for a non-conference encounter with first pitch set for 3 pm ET.
