Ranssel Pinedo captured the CUNYAC Player of the Year award, while three other members of the Lehman College baseball squad achieved postseason honors on Thursday as teammates
Elias Fermin and
Javaun Smith were elected all-stars, while
Jeremmy Santos made the Sportsmanship Team.
The Lightning (7-21), who will take on CCNY on Friday for the CUNYAC Championship in a best-of-three final, are led by two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week, Pinedo with .441 batting average (second in conference) and 26 RBI (fourth best). The New York City native who has started in all 28 games for Lehman this season is also second in CUNYAC in doubles (14), on base percentage (.505) and third in slugging (.645).
Smith makes the conference all-stars after appearing in the infielder or outfielder in all 28 encounters, (26 as a starter), for the Lightning. A native of Pleasantville, N.Y., Smith is currently second on the team in batting with .314 and has two home runs with 23 runs scored and 11 RBI.
Fermin also joins the CUNYAC all-stars after appearing in outfielder or as the designated hitter in all 28 games, 25 as a starter. The Yonkers native has crossed the plate 20 times while driving in 21 runs and leads the conference with seven round trippers.
Santos rounds out the Lehman accolades as he makes the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team for the second consecutive year. The Bronx native started 23 games at either the infielder or outfielder for the Lightning while batting .293 with 11 runs scored, three homers and 14 RBI.
