MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM SPREADS THE WEALTH IN IMPRESSIVE 11-POINT VICTORY OVER PANTHERS

The Lehman College men's basketball team (6-3 Overall, 2-0 CUNYAC) won their fourth consecutive game, defeating the Panthers of Purchase College (5-2 Overall, 2-0 Skyline) by a score of 80-69 Wednesday evening in a non-conference contest.

The Lightning received possibly their most balanced effort of the season in the victory, as six different player scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Alain De la Cruz netted 14 points, senior guard Duane Rhoden dropped in 13 points, snatched nine rebounds, and tallied five steals, and Alen Redzic, making his season-debut, scored 15 points and grabbed eight boards. First-year standout Jonathan DeJesus put forth a quality effort with 14 points, and guards Xavier Garvin and Scottie Nimmons scored 10 apiece.

Lehman College also shot lights-out from the floor. The Lightning nailed 63 percent of their attempts in the second stanza, and shot 53 percent overall for the evening. The Lightning also won the turnover battle for the eighth consecutive contest, as the team forced 24 Panther miscues while committing 20 mistakes of their own. Following the terrific effort by the team, Head Coach Steven Schulman expressed positive sentiments.

“This was a great road victory for us against a very talented team in SUNY Purchase,” Schulman said. “The most impressive thing was our ability to get so many different players involved tonight. We had six players score in double-figures, and that is a very encouraging sign. We'll have a few days off and then we'll get right back to work against a very tough USMMA basketball team.”

Despite the loss for SUNY Purchase, standout Jerrell Lewis scored a game-high 28 points to go along with four rebounds, and Marvin Billups added 18 points (7-10 FG) and grabbed four boards.

The Lightning will return to action Saturday afternoon as Lehman will host the USMMA King's Point Mariners in a matinee at the APEX Center, with game-time scheduled for 2:00pm.
