The Lehman College women's basketball team (11-8 Overall, 6-2 CUNYAC) picked up their third consecutive conference victory, defeating the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology (0-19 Overall, 0-8 CUNYAC) by a score of 68-36 Wednesday evening at the APEX Center in the Bronx. The Lightning won the game without the services of seniors Sally Nnamani, Whittney Barnes, Monique Sampon, and junior Tonisha Kirby, who were all given a night off to rest for the stretch run of the season.
Instead, the Lightning went with a lineup of Simone Byrd, Kelsey Ash, Bethany Rodriguez, Barbara Febus, and Paulie Tuazon, and didn't miss a beat. Ash put-forth a career evening, draining eight three-pointers, all of which accounted for her game-high 24 points. She also grabbed six rebounds. In addition, Febus, who was making her debut for the Lightning in the game, scored 13 points, snatched seven rebounds, dished five assists and tallied five steals, and Monet Sealy scored 12 points and grabbed four boards off of the bench for Lehman.
The Lightning shot 40.9 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 43-37. Lehman also won the turnover battle, committing just 15 turnovers compared to 26 for New York City College of Technology.
Despite the loss for the Yellow Jackets, Denise Diego scored a team-high 14 points her team while Kimberly Battle also put forth a fine effort with seven points to go along with 14 rebounds and three steals.
The Lightning will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the team travels to Brooklyn College to battle the Bridges in a crucial conference contest, with game-time scheduled for 12:30pm.
