The Lehman College men's basketball team (3-7 Overall, 1-1 CUNYAC) fell in non-conference action on Thursday evening, losing to the William Paterson University Pioneers (9-1) by a score of 70-52 in Wayne, NJ.
In the victory for the Pioneers, senior Joseph Ellis scored a game-high 23 points while dishing four assists and tallying four steals. Also, Tim Lucas dropped in 16 points, recorded four assists and recording three steals. Finally, it was Bobby Dunn netting 11 points, snatching six rebounds, dishing three assists and tallying three steals. For the game, William Paterson shot an incredible 50 percent from the floor (26-52) while also connecting on 12 of its 17 shots from the line.
Despite the loss for Lehman College, it was Mathias Raggiotto posting a team-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds and point guard Xavier Garvin added 13 points and four steals. Finally, it was Jonathan DeJesus contributing with six points and eight rebounds. For the game, Lehman College shot 40.4 percent from the field (19-47) and 64.7 percent from the charity stripe (11-17). Following the game, Head Coach Steven Schulma gave his thoughts on the contest.
"We really played one of our more together games of the year," Schulman said. "Our defense was much improved, but William Paterson being such a quality team was able to take over the final five minutes of the game, and I believe as the season progresses, we can develop into the type of team that can take control of a game in the waning moments. We'll shake this one off, break for the holiday, and come back ready to play."
The Lightning will return to action as Lehman will face Hamilton College at the APEX Center on Tuesday afternoon, December 29th in non-conference action, with game-time scheduled for 2:00pm.
