The Lehman College men's volleyball team (4-8 Overall, 2-6 CUNYAC) dropped a pair of conference matches, falling to the Hunter College Hawks and the City College of New York Beavers on Saturday afternoon as part of a CUNYAC multi-match at the Hunter Sportsplex in Manhattan. The Lightning fell to the Hawks by scores of 19-30, 14-30, and 17-30 before being turned back by the Beavers 26-30, 25-30, and 19-30.
In the Lightning's match against the Hawks, sophomore standout Jonathan Cruz continued his stellar 2009 campaign, tallying a match-high 13 kills to go along with seven digs. Junior RJ LeBlanc added five kills, five assists and three digs, and setter Nate Martin recorded 16 assists and eight digs.
Hunter College was led by Miguel Pena who recorded a team-high 10 kills, eight digs, and seven assists. Wojciech Jakubiak and Shandu Foster each tallied eight kills in the win and setter Zacarias Ripoll had a phenomenal match with 28 assists.
In the Lightning's second match of the day, LeBlanc tallied a match-high 10 kills to go along with five digs and four assists. Cruz added nine kills and five digs, and senior Joseph Bodden recorded eight kills.
CCNY took advantage of 14 Christopher Aviles kills in the victory. Aviles also recorded five service aces and six digs, and Brandon Mellette added 10 kills.
The Lightning will return to action on Monday evening as the teams takes to the road to battle the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent, with match-time scheduled for 7:00pm.
